WHERE TO GET IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT
DENTON HOLIDAY LIGHTING FESTIVAL:
Since 1988, the Denton tree lighting has been a holiday tradition at Historic Denton Square. Enjoy carriage rides, live performances and photos with Santa on December 1. Admission is free, but be sure to bring a gift to share the holiday cheer with those in need.
The walk from the Downtown Denton Square to University of North Texas is lined with houses dating back to the 1880’s. On December 2, you can tour seven of them, for a good cause! Proceeds go toward street lamps meant to “light the way” for UNT students and visitors walking from campus to the Square.
More than 40 businesses will vie for the coveted Wassail crown December 1-2, and you get to be the judge. Yep, that’s your job: Taste ALL the hot cider samples (for free) and then cast your vote for the best one!
Although the Denton Community Market wraps up its season with a holiday market on November 25, you can swing by the Greater Denton Arts Council to find those last-minute Christmas goodies at their special indoor market, happening December 14.
You’ll find more unique, locally-made gifts at Scrap Denton during the holidays where all of the items in their gallery have been made with 75% reusable items and are available for purchase December 1-31. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Housed in what was once Lacy Hotel, (Denton’s first hotel) this local gastropub is almost as hip as it is delicious. Pro tip: Be sure to make a reservation beforehand. It gets packed during the holidays!
Come see students from the University of North Texas showcase their talents at the Murchison Performing Arts Center on December 8. This festival of carols and choral classics is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!
