Lewisville Lake is not only one of the largest lakes in Texas, it also holds the weighty title of “Best Urban Bass Fishing Capital of Texas” by the Texas Legislature. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway to DFW this summer, here are several reasons why Lewisville Lake should top your list.
FISHING AND LAKE RENTALS
With 29,000 acres of surface water, an average depth of 25 feet, and stocks of large-mouth bass, crappie, catfish and white bass, sport and recreational fishing are (not surprisingly) a popular pastime here. Bring your own or rent fishing equipment at Lewisville Fishing Barge, where a record-sized bass was caught several years ago.
There are numerous boat rental businesses to choose from, too. BigDCats rents 70-foot yachts that include a dance floor, bar, buffet station and more. Just For Fun Watercraft Rental rents the “Club Fred” by the hour. This double-deck party barge holds 50. And if speed is your thing, Aloha Hydrosports rents an assortment of WaveRunners, pontoon boats and ski boats.
THINGS TO DO BY THE LAKE
Sometimes a view of the lake is the perfect backdrop to polish your putting technique. Named one of the “Best Places You Can Play In America,” by Golf Digest, nearby Lake Park Golf Club offers nine and 18-hole courses. Follow their calendar for special events like two man scrambles, competitions, ladies’ day specials, and wine tastings hosted by local wineries and vineyards. Since reopening in 2016, Lake Lewisville Disc Golf Park is open 24/7 and offers a diverse landscape to test your power shot.
Lewisville Lake Park opens at 7 a.m. every day, but closing times vary. There are ample camping grounds available that surround public boat ramps and two courtesy docks. The 662-acre park also holds eight well-lighted soccer and baseball fields and two softball and football fields.
Sneaky Pete’s has served as the quintessential Lewisville Lake restaurant experience for as long as I can remember. So I can’t think of a better way to close than by recommending a stop by this iconic restaurant that serves killer burgers and ice-cold margaritas.
