Something that may not be so commonly discussed is where to find adventure in DFW. For the adventure seekers and those who chase after something a little more on the edge, I’ve got you covered!
I’m all about hiking and the opportunity to go on a moonlit hike is riiiiiight up my alley. You never know what you might hear amongst the wildlife! All ages are welcome at Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area’s night hike, but be sure to wear your hiking shoes, because you’ll be trekking across the Lewisville prairie.
Who would have thought you can go zip lining in the middle of Texas?! Plano has got you covered! Not only is there zip lining here, but there are eight miles of trails where you can kayak, paddle board and more. I know this place is high up on my list for the summer!
Ever have the mentality that it’s TOO hot to even go to a water park? Yeah, same. Epic Waters is an indoor water park (currently the nation’s largest) with various slides, rides and pools to splash and have fun in. It’s located next to plenty of hotels, so you can easily add this into your weekend trip!
I grew up going to Six Flags in Arlington and I STILL feel a sense of adventure every time I go here! No matter what age you are, there are rides that will get everyone happily squealing at the top of their lungs. My personal favorite is the Titan, and I am so willing to wait in line for it!
Pro Tip: Cross VisitDFW’s top thrill rides off your Six Flags bucket list for the ultimate heart-racing experience.
A newer activity to hit the scene in Dallas and Fort Worth is axe throwing, and I’M ABOUT IT, Y’ALL. I may not be good at it, but I’m here for it! I’m secretly pretty competitive, so of course I’m going to try extra hard to get that axe in the middle of the target when I go — but honestly, this is a great group activity even if you’re not skilled at throwing axes!
Did you know Denton is home to some of North Texas’ most chilling ghost stories? I certainly didn’t, and one of those stories took place on Old Alton Bridge — Goatman’s Bridge! Many say this spot is haunted. If ghost stories are your thing, don’t miss heading this way to hear the tale.
Pro Tip: There’s plenty of ghost tours across DFW, so you can easily make this your first stop on a hauntingly fun weekend trip.
