WHAT TO EXPECT
Art in the Square brings dozens of acclaimed artists to Southlake’s town center. Painters, printmakers, sculptors, jewelers and more set up shop and display their crafts for Southlake citizens, Dallas denizens and visitors from across Texas. For this year’s event — the 20th annual Art in the Square — the Southlake Women’s Club reviewed applications from over 700 artists. During the three-day festival, Southlake Town Square is not only bustling with artists but also with live music, delicious food and activities for the kiddos. I’ve been to multiple Art in the Square events over the years, and while the general happenings remain the same, I always seem to find exciting new artists each year.
WHAT I FOUND
When I attended my first Art in the Square, I had recently started dating the woman who is now my fiance. Eager to find her something nice, I trekked through the square in search of the nicest piece of jewelry my hefty budget (about $5 or so) could buy. After a few minutes (okay — hours) of browsing the various veritable artists on hand, I found exactly what I was looking for at a price that didn’t break the bank. Furthermore, my free admission granted me access to a day’s worth of food trucks and music. I’m not saying that all great relationships are built on a foundation of gifts bought at Art in the Square, but I can say that I’ll be getting married this November 23. Coincidence? Probably. Okay, definitely. Nevertheless, as soon as my then-girlfriend (now-fiance) saw my gift, she had one request: “Take me there tomorrow.”
No matter what you do, make sure you pick up something nice for your significant other. At Art in the Square, that won’t be hard to find.
The 20th annual Art in the Square is Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. Admission is free.
