Let me tell you — DFW has seriously been working on kicking up their dessert game. We all know that Texas heat doesn’t mess around, so I’ve decided to help you cool off with 10 must-stop scoop shops to hit up this summer!
Azucar is a Cuban based scoop shop that originated in Miami, then decided to bless us Dallas natives with the famous Abuela Maria ice cream. This gem is one of my top five favorites, out of all the scoop shops I’ve visited around the U.S.! Not only is Azucar woman-owned (Hi, Suzy!), it was also inspired by her Abuela.
Did I mention that Suzy (Azucar’s owner) makes her own base and every single thing is FARM TO CONE?! I could truly go on and on about this scoop shop, but I’ll let the ice cream do the talking for me. P.S. Azucar means sugar in Spanish, and you’ll want to take all of your insta-worthy ice cream pics RIGHT HERE!
This mom and pop shop recently opened their second location in Dallas‘ Bishops Arts District and are going on their third location in Downtown Fort Worth‘s Sundance Square. I absoloutely LOVE a scoop shop that is always creating and rotating their seasonal flavors, and there’s always something new to try at Melt.
My favorite thing about this scoop shop is their Harry Potter series! Every year, during the month of October, Melt rolls out the series of all flavors dedicated to Harry. I think that’s pretty dope! My favorite “always flavor” is their “Cookie Crack”. DO NOT SLEEP ON IT! Fun fact: Their OG location on Magnolia is known for their Insta-worthy yellow wall. If you’ve been recently engaged, you should plan a photo shoot here, because…why not?
This adorable dessert shop screams “Texas” when you walk through the door! Not only does Farm Luck serve delicious ice cream, but it also has real comfort food with the cutest candy shop attached next door.
I truly admire this couple-owned Waxahachie shop, because they opened it out of their true love of ice cream and for their kids, simple as that! My favorite thing on Farm Luck’s menu was their famous banana split — Can you say nostalgia?! My guess, this banana split could feed up to three people if you shared…and you can get it for under $6.00!
4. JOY MACARON
This local spot is known for their signature “cereal milk” ice cream macaron sandwich! I absolutely adore the owner (Hi, Liz!). She’s a mother, a talented human being and a woman CEO who truly spreads JOY with every macaron served.
Mark my words, ya’ll: DO NOT SLEEP on the cereal milk ice cream sandwich this summer. It is 100% delicious, and it’s rolled in fruity pebbles. Plus, you can take all of the Insta-worthy pics here!
As I said before, scoop shops cure ALL. I walked into Muggle Shakes Denton location feeling slightly stressed from a long day, but left feeling on top of the world after meeting their sweet owner Edith and sampling the cutest, craziest froyo flights I have ever seen. You read that right. FROYO FLIGHTS. Each one is handcrafted and uniquely made in the cutest way!
For my vegans: They serve vegan froyo! Muggle Shakes also has the cutest chalk like mural for that Insta pic. Yes, please!
6. MILKY TREATS
Milky Treats is known as DFW’s first and only cereal infused scoop shop. The name speaks for itself — TREATS! Trust me, all the treats being served here. This Plano fave specializes in donut-stuffed ice cream, cereal infused soft serve and your OG gourmet ice cream served in a cone or cup. They have unique flavors such as “Ube” (pronounced oooo-bae) commonly found anywhere BUT Texas. Better yet, their base is made in-house!
When I first heard about Cauldron coming to Dallas, I legit felt like I was on CLOUD 9. Cauldron (originally from Cali) opened its doors this past winter. Their neon sign, “It’s not gonna lick itself”, really got me to eat my ice cream for the insta! Cauldron is known as the home of the “OG puffle cone”. Think of a waffle on steroids, served with liquid nitrogen ice cream shaped like rose.
Pro tip: The churro puffle cone. Get it.
Amorino is a gelato-based scoop shop that serves the prettiest, Instagram-worthy gelato. They have locations in Plano and Fort Worth, and are known for their signature cone — it looks like a rose! You can pick 2-3 flavors and top it with any flavored macaron. Let me tell you, you’ll want to top it with the blueberry macaron. It’s EPIC!
Cowtipping has amazing soft serve that touches my soul every time I eat it! With totally over the top toppings made in-house, this place puts the F in fun for me. Their scoop shop in Frisco is right next to The Star, Dallas Cowboys headquarters!
Fun Fact: In 2018, Cowtipping Creamery won best ice cream in DFW during VisitDFW’s Ice Cream Meltdown.
First of all, who doesn’t find it soothing to watch your ice cream being rolled up? This little Waxahachie shop specializes in Thai rolled ice cream, and the man behind Frost Bite Creamery really cares about the quality and base of his product. Get the “Sticky Situation”, thank me later!
