During the dog days of summer, there’s nothing like an ice cream cone to bring a smile to your (maybe a little sweaty) face. I know a scoop of sweetness always cheers me up! Before VisitDFW’s Ice Cream Meltdown bracket battle this past June, I chatted with locals and got the scoop on the top 8 ice cream shops in Dallas-Fort Worth.
1. GYPSY SCOOPS
This local shop is known for its delicious homemade ice cream and traveling ice cream food truck! Although you’ll normally only see the Gypsy Scoops truck at events, you can get a scoop (or two) Tuesday through Sunday at Gypsy Scoops parlor, located in an old house with adorable decorations.
The best way to wrap up a day of shopping at Southlake Square? A scoop of Milwaukee Joe’s ice cream! They have tons of different flavors and decadent cones. Fun fact: Retired Federal Agent Joe Libowsky founded Milwaukee Joe’s after he left Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and came to share his famous ice cream recipe with us in DFW.
At iCream Cafe, ice cream is a science—literally! Choose your size, type of ice cream (they can also make frozen yogurt or hot pudding!) flavor and toppings, then watch the magic happen as they make it. iCream may be a little pricier than other shops, but the experience of watching your ice cream get made from liquid nitrogen makes it totally worth it.
One thing I always hear about Henry’s is that they’re passionate about making the best made-from-scratch ice cream—and it’s true! Their “kitchen sink” flavor is their most popular and hands-down my favorite. Another thing I love about Henry’s is that staff is also always friendly and helpful, and the “Ice Cream Makes You Pretty” sign outside is just too cute!
While walking through Deep Ellum, you might’ve seen the line for Chills360; it’s normally out the door because their ice cream is so good! This is the first shop in Dallas to serve Thai-inspired ice cream rolls, and it’s been a hit so far. They have tons of delicious toppings and you get to watch as they roll your ice cream!
Located on the Historic Downtown Denton Square in a building from 1876, Beth Marie’s is a go-to for Dentonites and visitors alike. Since they opened this location in 1998, they’ve also expanded to a location in Southeast Denton and another in Downtown Carrolton, but (as a former Dentonite) their original spot on the Downtown Square will always be my go-to for a delicious scoop!
If you’re looking for an Insta-worthy ice cream stop, this is it! MELT is known for their infamous yellow wall and their “happy” handmade ice cream. Last year, they placed fourth in a worldwide competition for Best Ice Cream Shop! Locals can’t wait for their new location to open in the Bishop Arts District so we can get a scoop of this yumminess when in Dallas, too.
Last but not least is this year’s winner of VisitDFW’s Ice Cream Meltdown! Out of these eight ice creameries, our social media followers voted Cow Tipping Creamery as their favorite. Their indulgent “stackers” (soft serve ice cream mixed with toppings throughout) are definitely worth a trip to the Star in Frisco, home of the Dallas Cowboys!
As winners of VisitDFW’s Ice Cream Meltdown, Cow Tipping Creamery was submitted into the World Ice Cream Index to compete for “Best Ice Cream in the World!” Help us put DFW’s ice cream on the map and click below to vote. P.S. You can vote once every 24 hours!
