BOX GARDEN AT LEGACY FOOD HALL
‘Yo, what’s that smell?’ is the phrase running on loop through my head as I walk through the Legacy Food Hall. Each stall is oozing a different savory or sweet fragrance that hits me in the face every couple minutes. The Box Garden is in the backyard just beyond the glass doors but I can already hear the live music pulsing through the air. On deck for tonight’s free Thursday night concert is a cool Californian duo.
The Box Garden is a home run beer garden, housing an astounding 1,500 people. Tonight is a classic spring night in DFW, the warm air kissing my skin, serving as a sweet reminder of outdoor’s past. The place is packed with a mixed bag audience. I take note mostly of the adults ready to get their “thirsty Thursday” on — an easy task with tons of picnic tables and cozy seating areas. Cool cargo shipping crates are stacked in the corner of the Box Garden, now transformed into a beer and BBQ spot.
By the time I’ve gotten my face out of my food, people have slowly surrounded the stage, now swaying along with the music. Fog is flowing throughout the garden from behind the musicians, really setting the stage – pun intended. The warm glow from the lighting is also cast across the entertained faces, giving a touch of intimacy to the entire experience.
A curly headed toddler goes giggling past me as his parents clink their wine glasses, one eye on the music and the other on their little maniac. As the acoustic set comes to a close, there’s a sense of calm and cool comfort across the dirt yard. We’ll each walk away feeling connected through our happy hearts and full bellies. Dessert, anyone?
