Taking sailing lessons with Sail Dallas not only gets you out on the water, but lets you try your hand at sailing too! Out on Lake Lewisville you’ll find Sail Dallas, a sailing school that teaches lessons for all levels of expertise. You can expect a couple of hours out on the lake: I spent the first half hour learning how to sail, and the rest of the time relaxing on our boat. You can learn as much or as little as you want!
At Joe Pool Lake you’ll find two great spots for boating or relaxing: Lynn Creek Marina and Lynn Creek Park. The Marina offers boat rentals where my husband and I got set up with the two-hour canoe rental, but you can also go kayaking or do a boat rental. A short distance away at Lynn Creek Park, you can relax on the sand and swim in Joe Pool Lake.
White Rock Lake is in the heart of Dallas and offers great views of the stunning skyline. Book your kayak rentals through White Rock Paddle Co. for a fun day in the sun. Though you can’t swim in White Rock Lake, you can spend time out on its waters or even learn about the area’s history at the Bath House Cultural Center.
Captained by the former Mayor of Rockwall, Texas, Sail With Scott is a sunset cruise on a catamaran that sails on Lake Ray Hubbard. Bring whatever food and drinks you’d like because it’s all welcome aboard Scott’s catamaran. He’ll even let you try your hand at the wheel! The sunset cruise is a perfect way to enjoy an evening on the lake, as the hot sun goes down and you feel the wind on your face.
Panther Island Pavilion is an outdoor live music venue with a main stage facing the Trinity River that actually allows you to enjoy concerts while tubing on the water! When there’s not a concert going on, you can still enjoy this area by canoe, kayak or paddleboard through Backwoods Paddle Sports, located right on the Panther Island beach. When I went, I opted for paddleboarding and kayaking. The workers there are so friendly and will teach you everything you need to know. I had never paddle boarded before visiting and after leaving I felt like a pro!
This Grand Prairie hotspot is the largest indoor waterpark in the nation! You can practice your surfing skills on the FlowRider, or grab your friends and see who’s fastest on the E-Racers — and that’s just the start. With tons of thrill rides, a lazy river and even an arcade, Epic Waters is a great place to cool down in the summer (or warm up in the winter! They’re open year-round).
