EPIC WATERS INDOOR WATERPARK
I found a tropical vacation right in my backyard! After feeling the effects of a cold winter and craving a retreat, I came across Epic Waters Indoor WaterPark. I invited a girlfriend to take a day off of work while kids were at school, and we made the 20 minute drive from home to Grand Prairie.
As soon as we stepped inside, I was immediately reminded of summer. The atmosphere completely changed to reflect the perfect summer day…warm enough to want to go swimming, but not so hot that you were drenched in sweat. Since it was the weekday, there were only a few people around, so it was almost like we had the place completely to ourselves.
“So what should we do first?”
There was a lazy river, an arcade, 6 different waterslides, and an indoor surfing simulator. Surfing has been on my bucket list for the longest time, so we headed to FlowRider, the indoor surfing simulator. I walked up to the line, grabbed the board, and went to catch some waves. Within a second of touching the water, the waves pushed me back and I had “wiped-out.”
Determined to get a hang of this, I waited in a practically non-existent line. When my turn came, the workers helped me to actually stand on the board and gain my balance! I felt like a surfing pro, riding the waves, and even threw my hands up in the air like I actually knew what I was doing. The thrill of balancing on the board while the water came crashing towards me was unbelievable. I could have spent all day learning to move left and right and perform cool tricks, but there was so much else we wanted to do.
We walked up the stairs towards the E-Racers for a race down the slides. We were the only ones there, which meant no line. Score! It was the same for all of the rides — We were able to ride as many times as we wanted with the lack of lines.
After riding all the rides, it was time for an ice cold drink. We went back to the private cabana for drinks from the fully stocked bar. Paradise indeed! You mean I didn’t have to book a ticket down to the Caribbean to dip my toes in the water while sipping on a margarita? Rather than take a full week off of work and worry about the costs of a plane ticket, I realized I could experience summer bliss in the middle of winter right here at Epic Waters. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing in full vacation mode.
It was the ultimate break in the middle of the week I needed to feel refreshed.
