FARM LUCK SODA FOUNTAIN
Dessert is my fave, but I enjoy it most when getting to it becomes an adventure! It’s Texas, it’s summertime, and it’s hot. As I walk along the streets of downtown Waxahachie, my thighs are sweating, my curls just frizzed up and water isn’t cutting it. I look up and see the sign for Farm Luck Soda Fountain & Dry Goods. It may be the heat talking, but I could swear I heard it call out to me — “Lieutenant Dan! Ice cream!”
Rather then walking through the front door (All eyes on me? NOT TODAY!), I made my way through the back door of Farm Luck. Fun fact: the back door is actually the front door to their cute candy shop. Cool, right? I walk in and feel like a kid in a candy store, pun intended. I see pez, tarts, taffy, chewing bubble gum, chocolate…even cute shirts and mugs with Farm Luck’s logo on it.
I order my sundae with all the fixings and sprinkles. I’m extra, okay, but I deserve it after walking through the Texas heat! Everyone else must be thinking the same thing, because it looks like all the locals around me have the same decked-out sundae order.
After I got my sundae from the counter, I stop to snap a few shots because camera eats first, always (especially when you’re a foodie like me). Then, I dove in. Bite after bite, all I could think was “WOW”. This sundae was just what I needed.
As I’m chowing down, a local couple comes up to me and asks what I was shooting for (thanks for giving me away, camera!). They start chit chatting with me about what locals see and do in Waxhachie, and mention they had just been married. They wanted to enjoy a sundae together, so they came to Farm Luck. Again, heart melted! It was so adorable, I couldn’t help but take a photo of them eating their sundae.
This is why I love doing what I do. I get to meet new people and try different things, like Farm Luck’s delicious sundaes. I love the old-time atmosphere of this Waxahachie gem, and although I may not have come here as a kid, all of Farm Luck screams “nostalgia” to me, from the traditional floors to the quaint candy shop and classic ice cream sundaes. As I sit here, eating and chatting with locals, I know one thing’s for sure: There’s nothing better on a hot Texas day than sitting at Farm Luck, going ham on an decked-out ice cream sundae.
