DR. PEPPER BALLPARK
“Hopped out the Lyft at the Ballpark, lazy river calling my name,” I holler as we walk up to the gate to the RoughRiders game at Frisco’s Dr. Pepper Ballpark. It’s hotter than heck on a Thursday night and I want nothing more than to hang out with my gals in the RoughRider’s lazy river.
We approach the gate and everyone greets us with a big ole smile — I even snag a few high fives. Something about baseball puts everyone in such a good mood! We walk to the outfield area where the Party At The Yard (also known as PATY) is taking place and grab a cold drink while we explore. I opted for a Deep Ellum Dallas Blonde to start the night off. I pay with a $5 bill, and event after the tip, I still have money left for another! Drink specials are the way to my heart.
As we enter the gate to the lazy river section of the PATY, I immediately start to scout out the pool floatie situation. I need something photogenic, because obviously I’m going to take advantage of the photo ops. Spotted: a flamingo in the wild. I grab it (along with another $2 beer), and head back to the gals who have already posted up in their floats against the outfield wall in the lazy river. Prime location, girls, prime location.
“Have you ever been hit with a baseball out here?” my friend questions me at the top of the 4th. All the girls know I’m the resident PATY expert after coming to half a dozen Thursday games last year. I reassure her that we’re all safe up in this area, but it’s still a good idea to pay attention to the game while we’re chatting and floating, just in case…
Next thing you know it’s already bottom of the 8th and we’re finishing up our night under the stars, in the lazy river, watching a baseball game with $2 beers in hand. No other way I’d rather spend my Thursdays then right here.
