Lake Lewisville is one of the largest lakes in North Texas, giving you and your S/O miles and miles of opportunity to walk, jog, hike, canoe or kayak. Because I’m a sane human being, I’ll always choose food over exercise.
That said, why not do both? After your activities on or around the lake, you and your partner can kick it with a picnic on the shores of this luminous lake. If you’re into camping, the lake provides space for you to pitch a tent and settle in for a springtime night of stargazing.
Speaking of picnics, you’d be hard pressed to find a better spot than Founders’ Plaza in Grapevine. This local favorite is the perfect place to sit back, relax and watch the planes from DFW airport soar into the sky.
Someone out there, buried deep in my parents’ attic, there exists an unnecessarily adorable photo of me chasing one of the aforementioned planes. Thus, to honor that photo and see how little I’ve matured in two decades, my fiance and I will be making a trek out to the plaza with a picnic basket, a camera and a free afternoon to have our own mini party on the plaza.
If you’re a fan of excersize, you’ll want to head to the Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve in Plano, a picturesque facility that offers more parks and rec than Netflix. In all seriousness, the sheer beauty of this park is enough to get me outdoors, away from the picnic basket and into a headband. People wear headbands when they work out, right?
After you don your headband, head out onto the onsite lake for kayaking, canoeing, and standup paddle boarding from dawn to dusk. Watercrafts are not included, but the amazing views and romantic setting comes completely free. Feeling adventerous? Take your S.O. to the treetops and go ziplining through the park.
Inside: Giant water slides, a surfing simulator, an arcade, and a lazy river (where you’ll most likely find me). Outside: A brand new wave pool. Yep, Epic Waters has the best of both worlds! I mean, it’s the largest indoor waterpark in the nation, so how could it not? This Grand Prairie favorite makes for a very unique date, perfect if you want to make a splash (pun intended) or bring the kiddos along on your romantic adventure. They can practice their surfing skills on the FlowRider while you and your beau sip on an adult beverage, float the lazy river and enjoy this romantic oasis from the Texas heat.
Want to head inside? Texas Live! is a multipurpose event space with more restaurants than you can shake a fork at, and, from my research, very little opportunity for exercise beyond walking from concert to restaurant. In other words, this Arlington hotspot is my kind of place! Plus, it includes patios for stellar starry views of that beautiful Texas sky, and enough entertainment options to satisfy your significant other. Win win? I’d say so.
