This is not the first time Arlington has hosted the Gold Cup. On July 24, 2013, Panama edged Mexico 2-1 before 81,410 fans in a semifinal. Mexico or “El Tri” as they are known by their legions of fans, has played in Arlington all three times that AT&T Stadium has hosted the Gold Cup.
However, one team which has never played a Gold Cup match in Arlington is the United States— a talented squad bolstered this year by three players from local Major League Soccer club FC Dallas: central midfielder Kellyn Acosta, young goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez and veteran defender Matt Hedges.
This Saturday, local soccer fans can see their beloved Stars and Stripes in Arlington against Costa Rica. Anytime the US hits the pitch, the atmosphere is amazing thanks to legions of passionate supporters in the stands, many of whom are part of noted groups, Sam’s Army and/or the American Outlaws.
So, head over to Arlington to cheer on USA and check out the tailgating scene in the parking lots surrounding AT&T Stadium.
Of course, if tailgating isn’t your thing, visit one of the many Arlington restaurants near the stadium. Among the options less than a mile from Jerryworld is Candlelite Inn, which has been in business for five decades and serves steaks, Italian and Tex-Mex and Bodacious BBQ, a small chain with East Texas roots.
Other delicious options near the home of the Cowboys include Airway’s Hamburgers, Babe’s Chicken and Dinner House, and New Yorker Pizza and Pasta.
Soccer fans, get ready for some high-quality, competitive international soccer and take in the vibe of a high-stakes semifinal, all inside an air-conditioned facility. AT&T Stadium is calling you to visit on Saturday for the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinal. You won’t regret it.
