For forty-six years, Mayfest has been one of the most popular family-festivals in North Texas and a long-standing Fort Worth tradition. Over 200,000 festival go-ers visit Fort Worth and head to Mayfest for a one-stop entertainment experience for all ages. With live performances, festival fare, rides, attractions and an arts market, it’s non-stop fun for four days.
Here are my tips on how to Mayfest like a true Texan, and make the most of your weekend with your family. The festival starts Thursday, May 3 and runs through Sunday, May 6, 2018.
PLAN YOUR DAY
Check out the official festival guide for event schedule and details like maps and parking. No one wants to waste time looking for parking…
While admission is relatively affordable, ($5 for children, ages 3 to 12; $8 for ages 13 and up, and $5 for seniors) you’ll want to save and make it to Mayfest on Thursday, May 4 when admission is free for everyone. If you can’t make it Thursday, you can purchase tickets in advance online or at the festival. Bring your friends and family, too—Groups of five can purchase a discount “Fr-amily” Pass for just $25!
MAP IT OUT
There will be seven entertainment stages this year showcasing tons of live music and performances. In between shows, check out the activities and attractions like paddle boats on the Trinity River, festival rides or the Arts & Gift Market. If you’re feeling adventurous, get lost in the Giant Human Maze and slide down the Mayfest Zip Line. For those who are visiting with little ones, you’ll definitely want to visit the Tom Thumb/Albertson’s Children’s area or the festival’s petting zoo and pony rides!
Now that you’ve got your must-see shows and attractions, plan out the flow of your day. Check out the festival map so you can strategize and navigate through Trinity Park like a pro. Plenty of festival fare is available for purchase with tickets including Texas State Fair favorite, Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, funnel cakes, turkey legs, popsicles – you name it.
GO WITH THE FLOW
This may seem obvious, but it’s okay to deviate from your plan! In fact, with so many things to stimulate your senses, you’ll probably have just as great of a time wandering throughout the fest. The key to making the most of Mayfest is to have fun and enjoy the beautiful Trinity Park. The weather is predicted to be sunny and breezy this weekend, so get ready to enjoy your day on the banks of the Trinity River!
