AUTHENTIC YOGA LIFE
ARTIST: Erika Tolbert
I think this one might win for my favorite mural in Denton (I instagrammed it a few days after my trip!). I love the intricate pattern and all the colors together. Plus, you can catch a yoga class right there!
CLOSE BY: Right next to this mural is the DIME store, a cute store that sells handmade goods from local makers. If you like shopping local, you can’t miss this shop!
A CREATIVE ART STUDIO
ARTIST: Mick Burson
I feel like this mural fits Denton perfectly, because it’s so quaint and has a homey feeling, and those were exactly the vibes I felt in Denton. Because I love bright colors, I saturated the photo a bit, but I love the color paint the artist used. So fun!
CLOSE BY: This mural is located very close to the square, so there are a ton of really fun shops. It’s right next to A Creative Art Studio and Circa 77, a vintage store with a lot of great vintage band tees. Walk a little further and you’ll find a restaurant called 940s. Don’t pass it up, it’s delicious!
JUICY PIG BBQ
I typically stick to your typical really colorful, really bright murals, but this one is too fun to pass up! There’s also a wooden bench to sit on so it looks like you’re sitting on the swing in the mural. I’m not huge on movies, but I feel like this mural maybe alludes to a movie or too, as well. It definitely has unique vibes and makes for a really cool photo-op!
CLOSE BY: An adorable art studio! Wildflower Art Studio hosts fun workshops such as watercoloring, handlettering and calligraphy.
GREATER DENTON ARTS COUNCIL
ARTIST: Bailey and Ayrton Chapman
I loved this one because the colors were so bright. It’s a bigger mural, so what you can’t see in this photo is a giant train just on the other side!
CLOSE BY: The Greater Denton Arts Council is right next door, and they have a lot of special events to attend! I noticed they have an open mic night for poets every third Thursday of the month — How neat is that?!
THE BEARDED MONK
ARTIST: Roy Warren Lunt
I’m big on anything that pops and this one especially pops against a bright blue sky. I didn’t expect to love this one as much as I did, but the black-and-white really works on a bright, sunny day!
CLOSE BY: This mural is located on the wall of The Bearded Monk, a craft beer bottle shop and growler fill bar, so you don’t have to go far to get a local taste of the town. It’s definitely a fun place to visit and hang out with friends!
ARTIST: Denton high school students
I was obsessed with the look of this place! It’s an adorable, giant pink building with a retro sign on top, PLUS it has a great mural on the side. How could anyone not love this?
CLOSE BY: This MASSIVE book store (it used to be an opera building!) is located in the square. You need to at least step inside Recycled Books and take a walk through all the rooms. Seriously, I could’ve spent hours going through all the old books!
OAK ST. DRAFTHOUSE
I always love the murals in cities I go to and absoloutly loved the colors used in this one. You have to walk through the bar to get to it, so you might as well stay and enjoy a drink while you’re there snapping a picture! The house itself is one of the oldest houses in Denton and the decor will make you feel right at home.
CLOSE BY: Who doesn’t love a good escape room? Escaping the Square (right next door to Oak St. Drafthouse) gives you 60 minutes to solve a series of hints and clues in order to get loose from the room you’re in! Every room has a theme and you can go with up to 8 people!
ARTIST: Gnome Cones co-owner, Bret Hawkins
I’d been wanting to come to Gnome Cones ever since I saw a photo on Instagram, because I think it’s the cutest, most clever place. It lived up to my expectations and is stinkin’ adorable! I got the cotton candy snow cone and snapped photos at nearly every corner imaginable.
