NORTH SHORE TRAIL
It’s my first time on this trail, and I’m understanding why I’ve seen it in articles about the best trails in DFW. Although I drove through a nice, quaint neighborhood with cabin-like homes shortly before arriving at the trailhead, North Shore Trail’s dirt, views of Lake Grapevine and greenery are making me feel like I’m out of the suburbs and enjoying the wild.
The trail stretches nine miles. I’ve only done a quick portion of it, but I’m already making plans to come back and run the whole thing. I’m also making plans to bike here with my family, once my little boys are a few years older. As the daydreaming continues, I catch myself starting to make plans to buy a house near the trailhead, and a boat for this lake. I keep running, daydreaming, enjoying this start to my day.
I love that all these strangers are enjoying the same sunrise and scenery, all in different ways. If my four year old were here with me, he’d be throwing rocks off this cliff, into the water. I toss one in, laughing that “someone’s gotta throw these rocks!” Okay, I get the thrill. I toss a few more. Touché, little buddy.
I take my time heading back towards the parking lot, soaking in my surroundings on the trail. I snap a few photos of the lake, then step back to admire the wildflowers and wonder about how this trail will look during the fall and winter. I know that I’ll be back before then, but I make (yet another) plan to come see the scenery once the seasons have changed. For now, I’ll keep enjoying the summer sun and warm morning, running along this gorgeous trail in Grapevine.
