Welcome to October festivals and football weekend! We’ve assembled a helpful itinerary-style weekend playbook of the top local events including the Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers classic NFL showdown, Oktoberfest celebrations, TCU vs. West Virginia college football and the State Fair of Texas.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS AND FRIGHTS

I’ve always believed you can never celebrate beer enough, and Southlake continues the festivities with their annual event including great live entertainment…and yes, great beer…all weekend long.
In DFW we take Halloween seriously. And no one does it better than Six Flags Over Texas. Go in the Friday evening or after the game on the weekend (it’s close by in Arlington) to get your thrill-on and your heart started.
Celebrate all things Texas at the State Fair with Midway rides, livestock exhibitions and mainstream entertainment happening daily (and nightly) through October 22. If it can be fried and eaten, you’ll find it here.
If you’re into dogs, (and who isn’t?) this festival has gone to the dogs. Literally. This is one of Denton’s signature events and is a model for other canine festivals across the country. FREE to the public with entertainment, arts and crafts for the whole family.
From the “Ice Bowl” to the “Dez Caught It” classic, no two NFL teams have spawned more football legends or have bigger national fanbases. The 3:30 p.m. start time means you can and should make an entire day of it.
