A GRAND (PRAIRIE) BUCKET LIST
This FREE Main Street festival on April 26 – 28 is a can’t miss activity in Grand Prairie! Main Street Fest offers live music every evening, including Casey Donahew Band on Friday and Tyler Farr on Saturday — both of which I have seen live and can 10/10 recommend for a good time. There are also lots of opportunities to enjoy local art, shop from vendors, ride carnival rides and taste a whole lotta local food and drinks! You can even get a sneak peek at the pop up for the much anticipated Firehouse Gastro Park (opening in Grand Prairie this May).
One of the most unique things I have ever done in DFW is attend these Horse Races. As a transplant to DFW, the idea of going to a horse race seemed a little obscure to me…but since my born and raised Dallasite friends had been going every summer for years, I figured I better give it a chance! Four years later, I go every summer to place some $2 bets on the cutest (I mean fastest) horses! General admission is just $5, and a little birdy told me that they throw the best Kentucky Derby Day party in the metroplex.
There are plenty of places to catch a baseball game in DFW, but not many places where you can an enjoy a game without breaking the bank. Fortunately, you can grab a ticket to see the Texas Airhogs play for as low as $8 and enjoy affordable snacks and drinks all night long. Mark your calendars — The season kicks off on May 16!
When spring weather gets a little toasty (thanks, Texas), you can stay cool at this massive indoor waterpark! Fun fact: It’s the largest in the nation. Admission is only $34 for non-Grand Prairie residents, and you can spend a day enjoying 11 different water rides, a lazy river, lots of reasonably-priced snack options and an arcade. Plus, their ridiculously fun wave pool — the Epic Waves HOLE — opens May 4th!
With the tagline of “America’s #1 Marketplace,” you already know that Traders Village is not your average shopping adventure. Traders Village has a little something for everyone — including rides, snacks and a wide range of shopping. Trust me, there’s something special about starting your day with shopping and ending it with a few carnival thrills. Better yet, it’s only $4 for parking and entry is free. Bargains AND bumper cars? Yes, please!
If you’re like me, you associate the lake with summertime, and lucky for us, there’s a great spot in Grand Prairie where we can get our fix! There is nothing better than spending time near the water all afternoon with your friends and the grabbing a bite to eat in the area. One of my favorite places to grab dinner is Oasis at Joe Pool Lake. They have a DJ or live music nearly every night of the week, as well as other fun events like all-you-can-eat crawfish!
