The descendants of Dallas’ iconic Martinez family are behind new hotspot, El Vecino Tex Mex. They’ve taken their passion for Mexican food and combined it with a relaxed (yet more upscale) neighborhood feel. This is one place you don’t want to miss! With two locations in East Dallas and Travis Walk, you’ll enjoy traditional flavors as well as a variety of healthy bowls, all day brunch items, and — of course — a fab happy hour!
2. LA MARGARITA
I lived in Las Colinas for 10 years, and one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants was La Margarita (located in South Irving). This family owned and operated restaurant dates back to the 1970s and has some of the tastiest selections I’ve seen! Their most popular dish is the Pollo Maria, which I’d highly encourage you to try. It’s delicious!
3. LA COMIDA
It’s true that Addison has no shortage of dining options, but when making your Tex-Mex choices while visiting, La Comida should rank high on your list. Not only does this spot have some of the best margs in DFW, but their food is stellar — and the restaurant is decorated in pink flamingos. Enough said!
I can’t even begin to explain how amazingly wonderful Esparza’s is! This local spot has one of the best patios in Historic Downtown Grapevine and is located in a renovated house from the 1800s. They’ve been serving up delicious Tex-Mex and margs since the ’80s, and they hands down have the best Michelada in DFW! Fun fact: Esparza’s used to have a sister restaurant called Guero’s that was my go-to spot. It recently closed, so I now have to travel a bit further…but the food is absolutely worth the drive!
6. MARTY B’S
A little north of Grapevine, you’ll find Marty B’s. This is where you take out-of-towners who think the ‘burbs can’t hold up to the big city restaurants! With live music, fire pits (where you can roast S’mores), yard games and a spacious patio, this destination spot is the perfect place to kick back with friends and tell some stories over Tex-Mex.
Mariano’s Hacienda is probably the most notable spot on this list, because this is where the invention of the frozen margarita machine happened, y’all! Mariano Martinez dreamt of the concept and turned it to reality. It makes sense that this is one of the first stops on Dallas’ Margarita Mile! You can find Mariano’s Hacienda locations in Dallas and Arlington (and a sister restaurant, La Hacienda Ranch, in Frisco). Go for the Tex-Mex, stay to sip on a margarita and get a little taste of history!
