December has arrived, and holiday festivities are in full swing in Dallas-Fort Worth! While college football fans flock to AT&T Stadium for the Big 12 Championship, you can head to these free events around town to make your weekend merry and bright. Tag your photos from your adventures with #DFWWeekend for a chance to be featured on our website and social media channels!
Denton | December 1
When I lived in Denton, this was one of my favorite free holiday traditions. There’s nothing like Christmas carols, cider, horse-drawn carriage rides and a magical tree lighting on the Historic Denton Square to get you in the spirit! While you’re there, stop by the Denton Visitor Center for free beer samples from local breweries.
Mansfield | December 1 – 3
From their Fa-La-La-La 5K to an annual holiday parade, Mansfield has a weekend full of holiday cheer lined up. Join them for the kickoff on Friday with a free family festival featuring ice sledding, local shopping, a visit from Santa and tree lighting at City Hall!
Plano | December 1
You won’t hear anyone say, “bah humbug” at this celebration! With snow tubing slides, local entertainment and competing ice carvers, how could they? This free event is sure to make even Scrooge smile. Top it off with a magnificent tree lighting at 7 p.m.
Irving | December 2
Ring in the season with an annual parade and tree lighting in Irving’s Heritage District! This free event will feature music and dance performances with classic Christmas tunes, free In-N-Out burgers and complimentary hot chocolate to sip on while you watch the parade pass by.
Dallas | December 2
Since 1987, this free parade has marched through downtown Dallas in front of thousands. Head to Commerce Street to join the fun this year and snag a spot to watch their 30th annual trek through town—complete with floats, dancers and Santa Claus. Holiday-ed out? Swing by the Dallas Observer Music Awards Showcase at 6 p.m. in Deep Ellum.
Arlington | December 2
If you’re a football fan, Horned Frog or a Sooner, you’ll want to pencil in a visit to ATT&T Stadium this weekend where Texas Christian University and the University of Oklahoma are going head to head in the Big 12 Championship at 11:30 a.m. Tickets range from $90 to $200.
Grapevine | December 2
Grapevine is also hosting a free parade this weekend, but this one’s a little different. Held on Lake Grapevine, it features a parade of boats decked out in holiday lights! You’ll be able to view the show from any shore on Lake Grapevine, or watch the boats with a classy cocktail in hand on the deck of Glass Cactus Nightclub. Peppermint schnapps, anyone?
