White Rock Lake is my favorite place in Dallas, and it’s the perfect place to have a picnic! It can be a bit chillier close to the water, because it can be windy, so be sure to pack a jacket even if it’s warm (just in case). White Rock Coffee‘s Lake Highlands location is nearby, and it’s a great place to grab something to sip on, too!
You cannot go wrong with ANY of DFW’s food truck parks! I live less than a mile from Truck Yard in Dallas (one of my favorite spots to sit outside on a sunny day), and if I’m ok with driving just a bit, I love eating at Hub Streat in Plano. The arcade games that Hub Streat has are awesome!
There’s no better way to spend time outside than getting a wonderful photo to prove you had a great time, right? Even if you’re not on a mission to find the perfect shot, snapping some wildflower pictures is a great way to make memories. Bluebonnets scream spring and simply being among springtime flowers in nice weather will brighten your mood! At this time of year, you’re sure to find lots of springtime photo-ops and places to see spring blooms around town.
Both BarTaco and HG Sply Co. are located right along the Trinity River in Fort Worth and are great spots to grab a cocktail. I’m from Fort Worth and have loved seeing this fun area flourish in the past few years. My suggestion? Spend a day exploring the great outdoors in Fort Worth, then grab a seat on one of these patios, catch the sunset and say ‘cheers’ to the weekend!
Spring in DFW doesn’t just bring flowers and nice weather — It brings amazing festivals! From bluebonnet festivals to jazz festivals, there’s something out there for everyone (and most of these local fests are free!). I can’t wait for all the arts festivals, because the color explosion is sure to put a smile on my face.
Think you need to head to Florida to find a beach? WRONG! Located in Grand Prairie, Joe Pool Lake has sandy shores and offers canoeing, kayaking and boating for all guests — all in blue water, too! I love kayaking when it gets hot outside and cannot wait to get in on this action. Pro Tip: Turn this day adventure into a weekend getaway by reserving a cabin at Loyd Park!
7. GO ON A HIKE
Grab your friends, water bottles, hiking shoes and go! There are way more hiking opportunities in this area than people may realize. You’ll find some of the best trails at Cedar Ridge Preserve near Dallas, and Oak Point Nature Preserve in Plano has a hidden gem ropes course. It’s time to celebrate this perfect weather and get moving!
Even the lions, tigers and bears love spring weather in Texas! Did you know that the Dallas Zoo is home to over 400 species and 2,000 animals? Take some time this season to stroll around the Zoo, saying hello to adorable animals like Saambili. While you’re there, be sure to stop by and feed the giraffes at the Diane and Hal Brierley Giraffe Ridge!
